Ashley Donnell, PA-C
Ashley Donnell grew up in New Mexico where her father was assigned as an Army officer physicist, and she spent her college years at the University of Denver majoring in Biology, with minors in Chemistry and Psychology, as part of their premed program. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences in August, 2006. She then worked as a technician in the Surgical ICU at Denver Health Hospital.

In 2008, Ms. Donnell moved to the north shore of Long Island, New York and was admitted into the Physician Assistant graduate program at Stony Brook University. During her second year, she lived in Queens, NY and trained in the hospitals in New York City. She graduated with a Master’s of Science as a Physician Assistant in June, 2010.
Ashley showed a special interest in medicine at an early age. She loved to treat her dolls and stuffed animals with all sorts of imaginary injuries, and she volunteered to be the accident victim with a broken arm, a sprained knee, or a concussion when her ski patrol parents were preparing for their medical tests.

Ashley's Sports
Because their parents were on ski patrol, Ashley and her brother grew up spending their winter weekends skiing. By the time Ashley was 16 years old, she had also become proficient as a snowboarder. She was hesitant to move to Houston until she learned that the "company plane" could get her back to the snow in only a couple of hours.

What is a PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT?
A certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) is a highly trained medical professional who has completed a two-year Masters Degree program and passed the Physician Assistant certification exam.
An orthopedic PA-C is formally trained to perform patient exams, make diagnoses, prescribe treatment and medications, give injections, order and review x-rays and other diagnostic tests, apply casts and braces, make hospital rounds, and assist in surgery, under the supervision of a licensed Orthopedic Surgeon.
To remain certified, PAs are required to complete 100 hours of continuing medical education (CME) every 2 years and pass a recertification examination every 6 years.

But her real love is soccer. Following her older brother's example, who went on to play goalkeeper at West Point, Ashley played defender on her select club team, Albuquerque United, as well as both her high school and college women's soccer teams. Her club team won State six consecutive years, and her high school team won State her senior year. At the University of Denver, Ashley walked on to join the team and was rewarded with a full athletic scholarship her senior year.
Today, Ashley Donnell still enjoys her winter snow sports, still plays soccer for fun, and has added long distance running and softball to her regular sports activities. She ran her first marathon on July 31, 2011 in San Francisco, which included going over the Golden Gate bridge - 26.2 miles in 4.37! |
